rss harvest: birds, baskets, blocks

i feel like i am often going through my rss feeds and just kind of sharing articles into a bunch of different chats and discord channels and stuff. like sorting mail into all the right topic boxes. maybe it is nice to make a kind of "log" of things i find interesting on the "web" instead.

🔖 game clones in the age of vibecoding (404 media)

cloning in games is not anything even remotely new, but i thought this was a nice piece that connects the current vibecoding stuff with larger practices around cheap knockoffs meant to confuse people in storefronts.

the two clips of the rotation tetris games really drive home for me that the vibecoded stuff is a cheap cardboard cutout. i really doubt that greenman's version will ever go much further than what was shown, but holmér's version is just getting started—it's a thing that can grow and develop because (duh) she's built the skills to cultivate it. (i am prepping for my intro to programming class in the fall, so i am basically constantly thinking about The Cases To Be Made with made-up students in my head about this stuff.)

threes/1024/2048 gets brought up here, so it's worth mentioning the "threemails" post that chronicles that development.

🔖 a good poster (brooklyn vegan)

thomas_dollbaum_sept_web

i unfortunately wasn't able to find who the artist of this poster was at a skim. i have not listened to thomas dollbaum before, and the few tracks i listened to didn't especially catch me, but i do really like this poster. (he is playing some shows with s.g. goodman, though, who i do especially like.)

🔖 this is the ideal dark souls fashion (colossal)

🔖 clipart.studio for digital collage (jank)

it is perhaps known that i love collaging, both in paper and in pixels. mostly bookmarking this to come back to it, but it looks neat.

🔖 iina is very good

(indirectly i guess this is also a bookmark for this marathon discussion.)

google recently removed me from the youtube family plan i was on with some friends out in california, because i am not in california. unfortunately i don't want to give google money right now, and i really fucking hate ads. so youtube is a pain in the fucking ass. i really like using video player IINA because it has yt-dlp baked into it, so you can use it to just watch videos without the web interface. (and from there even download them as a file with Cmd+D)

extra conveniently, there's a nice extension that makes it easier to move from web links to IINA. neat.

🔖 saskia freeke is still one of the best to ever do it

okay, that's all for now. right now i'm in the middle of trying to attend all 32 movies of a film festival that i bought a pass for since i'm on summer break. i will probably write more about this later, but in the meantime my general thoughts are: movies are pretty good. i've also been reading fist of the north star and one piece, and i'm now far enough into fist of the north star that i can recognize all the little nods and explicit references to it that happen in one piece. i suspect there's a long tail on "is that a fist of the north star reference?"
