hey, listen: YELLOW (1975) by イエロー
for this past bandcamp friday i picked up a bunch of stuff from 180g/sound fuji. sound fuji is an archival / crate digging project within king records, and 180g i believe is a french vinyl press and import outfit...? i'm not totally sure what's happening there, but what i do know is they have some fucking bangers on their bandcamp page. a while ago they put me onto takeshi terauchi's incredibly energetic electric guitar stuff, along with chiemi eri's stellar latin jazz/japanese folk fusion stuff more recently. a good follow.
anyway, this album by イエロー is tremendous.1 please listen to it! it is a really excellent kind of jazz/funk/rock deal. the band was only active from '72 to '76, and this is their only studio album.2
everywhere i look lists the band and the album as the same thing, either both using the english "yellow" or both using the katakana 「イエロー」(which is just "yellow" in katakana.) it seems to me like the album name is in english and the band name is in katakana, which is sometimes an important distinction, but i got no fuckin' clue. i am mostly using the katakana to refer to the band because there are multiple other bands named "yello(w)" in english.↩
my fun weekend activity is trying to dig up some of the tangentially related albums from before and after the band was active.↩
