hey, listen: Days of Open Hand (1990) by Suzanne Vega
I think Suzanne Vega is one of those names I've heard a lot, maybe have heard some songs of, but haven't ever actually listened to an album. Many such cases.
Anyway, this is my first album by Suzanne Vega, so I can't really pick apart how this fits into her larger body of work, but there's something about this that clicks in my brain in the right way. The album has a ton of variety, and the lyrics have a really interesting quality to them that I have trouble articulating. Just that I don't hear songs like this, I suppose. There's a singularity to them that I find fascinating.
I think my favorite track is "Rusted Pipe", but I also appreciate the one video that was produced for "Book of Dreams", which is where the title of the album comes from, as well as the still used on the cover.

I quite like the video, but it also (I think) speaks to a video made cleverly with a relatively low budget. There's some fun early compositing stuff happening in it that I find charming.
An aside—Recently, the YouTube Family account I am on with some friends across the country got flagged because I don't live across the country. I don't especially want to give Google money right now, so I've been leaning more on using yt-dlp, or more specifically IINA which integrates it into the program. There's even a neat little browser extension for Chrome and Firefox you can add to right-click and open pages in IINA and not deal with ads and stuff.
